abundance |əˈbəndəns| noun
A very large quantity of something
The quantity or amount of something,
The state or condition of having a copious quantity of something; plentifulness: vines and figs grew in abundance.
Plentifulness of the good things of life; prosperity: Abundance comes from the Latin word abundant, from abundant – ‘overflowing,’ from the verb abundare.
I encounter many people throughout the day in the insurance business and as a coach. Of course in the insurance business, there are some conversations about the “scarcity” of their situation, or life at that moment due to an insurance claim or a situation that might happen so you are protecting yourself.
However, it amazes me outside of work, and being a coach the amount of people that speak scarcity and what they are lacking, or what is going wrong in their life instead of talking about or discussing what is going right. The abundance, the “overflowing” of good that is there, right there for them to tap into to experience a life of fullness and happiness.
But before someone can feel these emotions it must start with your thought life. What you think about, what you dwell on. There are countless studies where your thought life, or your unconscious and conscious language whether silent or audible effects your actions which in turn affects your life. As William James puts it, “Your physical actions are simply the outward manifestation of your inner thoughts. What you see in yourself is what you get out of yourself.”
Vic Johnson in 13 Secrets of World Class Achievers explains it this way:
“Every thought we think, whether conscious or unconscious is translated by the brain into electrical impulses. These impulses direct our brains control centers. Thus, every emotion, feeling, action, and moment is directed and controlled by our thoughts. Thoughts of lack and scarcity breed feelings of aggressiveness, selfishness, worry, and jealousy. Its effects are negative. Thoughts of abundance breed feeling of kindness, love, prosperity, and generosity. Its effects are positive. What Thoughts you choose to focus on is entirely up to you.The Brain believes whatever you tell it to believe.”
Tommy Newberry also discusses ones thoughts and how it affects their success in his book Success Is Not An Accident: Change Your Choices, Change Your Life:
“Whatever you direct your mind to think about will ultimately be revealed for everyone to see. With every thought that races through your mind, you are constantly redefine yourself and your future. Successful men and women train their minds to think only about what they want to happen in their lives.”
He goes on to say that “the most powerful words in the English language are those that come after the words I am.”
In conclusion, let’s start today with thoughts and words of abundance, then let’s see if we can go a few days with these thoughts and nothing negative, after awhile, you will see that you will not want to speak on anything that demonstrates scarcity in your life, only the abundance that is present.
Out of the Authors quoted today I believe King Solomon said it best: “As in water face reflects face, so the heart of man reflects the man.” Proverbs 27:19
So what is your “heart,” reflecting? Are your thoughts of scarcity or abundance?
